I've been thinking about what I should start out with for a few days until inspiration hit. Why write about how it is to live in Spain as a foreigner or about our time at Murcia se ReManga when I can write about Harry Potter? Once a Potterhead, always a Potterhead.
So, this badger spent a few hours working on a huge list of things that have been changed in the Hungarian translation. We're talking about things that have been changed completely, things that have been just translated, and things that've only changed a little in the spelling. Of course this list is not complete, but I've done my best.
So if you ever wondered how your favorite spell sounds in Hungarian, or if you are Hungarian and wanted to enter the english realm of Harry Potter (whether it's the books, movies, fan fiction, or the fandom in general, it doesn't matter), this is for you.
Since the list is pretty big, it's going to be split into different sections. Every English-Hungarian post will be followed by the same post in Hungarian-English order.
First up: characters. (The ones marked with * will have little notes or explanations at the end of the list)

Alastor (Mad-Eye) Moody - Alastor (Rémszem) Mordon
Moody had been changed to Mordon, it has a darker feeling this way. I have almost called him Mordor at least a dozen times. Oops.
“Rém” has meanings of 'monster' and 'terrible' and 'horror'. “Szem” means “eye”.
Beedle the Bard – Bogar Bárd
Bogar looks really similar to “bogár” which means 'bug', this way the Beedle-beetle similarity kinda stays and we can understand the little name joke in Hungarian, too.
Cornelius Fudge - Cornelius Caramel
Fudge means karamel/caramel. Not much to add.
He who must not be named - Ő, akit nem nevezünk nevén
Literally “He, whom we don't call by his name”
Horace Slughorn - Horatius Lumpsluck
I have no idea why they had to change Horace to Horatius, but in the 7th book it's changed to Horace? I guess the translator was not paying attention, or didn't like Horatius after all. And don't even ask me what Lumpsluck is, because I am just as lost as you are.
Minerva McGonagall - Minerva McGalagony
Galagony(a) means hawthorn. Not sure why the change was needed.
Mollywobbles – Mamamaci
Mamamaci: maci is a cuter name for bear. So, basically mama bear.
Moony – Holdsáp
Hold= moon
Sáp(adt) = pale
Newt Scamander - Göthe Salmander
To keep to name animal related, this monstrosity happened. I know, I hate it too.
Göthe (similar to “gőte” which means newt)
Salmander (similar to “szalamandra” which means salamander.
Phlegm – Francica
francia+cica=francica
“francia” means french, “cica” means kitty/kitten/cat, so... french kitten?
Pigwidgeon (Pig) – Pulipinty (Puli)
“Puli” is a Hungarian dog bread. “Pinty” is a finch.
Professor Kettleburn - Ebshont professzor
Ebshont sound similar to “ebcsont”. There's a proverb “Ebcsont beforr” (literally “A dogs broken bone will soon be healed.”) It means that what happened it a minor thing and soon you'll be over it. Mostly said after getting a minor injury, like scratched knees.
Prongs – Ágas
“Ág” means branch. “Ágas” is branchy. Slightly more subtle than straight up Prongs.
Quirinus Quirrell - Quirinus Mógus
To keep the Quirrell – squirrel joke, his name is Mógus (sound similar to “mókus” which means squirrel)
S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) - M.A.J.O.M. (Manók Alkotmányos Jogaiért Országos Mozgalom)
“Majom” means monkey. Do I have to say more?
Severus Snape - Perselus Piton
While in english they have given him a name that reminds you of “snake”, in Hungarian we went all out and straight up named him Piton (python). And to have the nice alliteration, we also gave him a stupid first name.
Tom Marvolo Riddle – Tom Rowle Denem
While Tom Marvolo Riddle gives you “I am Lord Voldemort” (and “Tom M. R., A Dildo Lover” but we're not going to talk about that), it was simply not possible to make an anagram in Hungarian from that. And thus Tom Rowle Denem was born, with “Nevem Lord Voldemort” (My name is Lord Voldemort). Yes, we had to split a W into 2 V's, big whoop. At least his middle name was not Elvis (looking at you, french translation).
(fun little note, my sister and I often joke with his name, because Tom Denem could be split to “Tom, de nem” which is basically “Tom, but no/not”). So when we are talking and one of us says “but no” (de nem) it's not unusual that either they or the other person adds “Denem? Tom Denem?”)
Weird Sisters - Walpurgis Leányai
Since the direct translation would have sounded...uh, weird?... they were completely renamed. “Leányai” means daughters, but don't ask me where Walpurgis came from.
Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank - Wilhelmina Suette-Pollts
Suette-Pollts in Hungarian sounds like "szú ette polc" which means 'bark beetle eaten shelf'
